Earlier today Cannes announced its 2012 festival (the 65th!) lineup, with some great looking projects topping the list. The festival, which crowned The Tree of Life with the Palme d'Or last year, will open with Wes Anderson's Moonrise Kingdom, starring Bruce Willis, Edward Norton, and Bill Murray. Other films in contention for the top prize include: David Cronenberg's Cosmopolis (starring Robert Pattinson), Killing Them Softly (starring Brad Pitt), Lee Daniels' The Paperboy (starring Zac Efron and Nicole Kidman), and Holy Motors (starring Eva Mendes).
The Cannes Film Festival is the elite international film festival, celebrating the best films around the world. Many of the films that compete at Cannes go on to receive numerous awards nominations. Last year's winner, The Tree of Life, ended up with 3 Academy Award nominations, including Best Picture.

During the almost-two weeks of the prestigious festival, celebrities from all over the world will converge on the water banks in Cannes, France. The festival serves as the premier showcase of European films, as well as prestigious big-studio and art house films. Outside of the competition films, studios hold world premiers of other films, like this year's premiers of Hemingway & Gellhorn, starring Clive Owen and Nicole Kidman, and Dreamworks' Madagascar 3: Europe's Most Wanted.
