Arguably MTV's only valid piece of true music entertainment all year, the MTV Video Music Awards have become a staple of popular, edgy, and possibly-controversial performances featuring today's biggest music artist, plus at least one throwback, "classic" artist.
While this year's show wasn't marred with any true shocking moments like the infamous Britney/Madonna kiss from 9 years ago (yes, 9 years ago!) or the Kanye/T. Swift incident from 3 years ago, it made up for it with mostly good performances from some of today's more talented popular music artists, including: Rihanna, Frank Ocean, One Direction, Green Day, Alicia Keys, and Lil Wayne. The night ended with a pretty incredible audience sing-a-long with Taylor Swift on her newest single "We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together". It sounds pretty cool when the entire Staples Center is singing along.
Here's a rundown of the big winners. For a full list, plus a video recap of the highlights from the night, check out MTV.com.
