nominees//85TH ACADEMY AWARDS

This morning Emma Stone and Seth MacFarlane announced the nominees for the 85th Academy Awards. MacFarlane is only the second Oscar host in Oscar history to assist in announcing the nominations. There weren't too many surprises in nominations (though each year provides a few), which will make Oscar Sunday even more unpredictable. It's been a while since we've had a year with this much quality and this few frontrunners. One surprise was Benh Zeitlin, who received his first nomination for Best Director for Beasts of the Southern Wild. Steven Spielberg wasn't shunned as a Best Director nominee this morning, like he was in yesterday's announcement for the BAFTAs, and his film Lincoln was the most nominated this year, with 12 nominations. History was made in the Best Actress category with Emmanuelle Riva (Amour) being the oldest nominee ever at 85 years old and Quvenzhane Wallis (Beasts of the Southern Wild) being the youngest nominee ever at 9 years old.
