winners//SPIRIT AWARDS 2013

Proving, yet again, that this year's Oscar race is completely wide open and every chance of winning your pool has gone down the drain, the past week has given a few nominees some last minute boost. Emmanuelle Riva is consider, by many, the new frontrunner for Best Actress. Moonrise Kingdom may upset in the Best Original Screenplay category. And, Silver Linings Playbook may best Argo for the Best Picture.
Yesterday's Spirit Awards didn't help the situation at all. The Spirit Awards celebrate the best in independent film. As the scope of independent film has changed over the years, and the mainstream audience has accepted the sometimes eccentric genre, box office successes like The Artist and Silver Linings Playbook have made independent film more of a name, and not just "some weird movies".

Here are the winners for the Spirit Awards 2013. There's no doubt that we'll some of them return to the podium tonight.
