FILM BUSINESS NEWS

Pinewood Studios, the world famous British studio behind countless major projects including the recent James Bond flicks, announced yesterday its plans to open its first U.S. facility in Fayette County, GA, just south of Atlanta.

The large-scale film studio will be called Pinewood Atlanta, built on 288 acres in the Atlanta suburb. The complex will include production offices and five soundstages.

According to the AJC, Pinewood CEO Ivan Dunleavy said, "Today's agreement is another step forward for the Pinewood brand internationally. This new studio will target US production. Georgia has excellent fiscal and tax credit incentives as well as a great crew base." Currently, Pinewood has locations in the United Kingdom, Canada, the Dominican Republic, Germany, and Malaysia. Some of Pinewood's recent projects include the upcoming Angelina Jolie vehicle Maleficent and the Kenneth Branagh-directed Jack Ryan.

The film production boom continues to grow in Georgia. Last year, $3.1 billion of economic activity was created with various productions filmed in Georgia.

Construction on the new site is already underway. The first production will go under the lights in January 2014.
