thoughts//THE 12 DAYS OF (KATHRYN'S FAVORITE) CHRISTMAS (SONGS): DAY 10

BY KATHRYN GARVIN

On the 10th day of Christmas, this is my favorite song:

Holy, Holy, Holy by Sufjan Stevens

First of all, Sufjan (Soof-john) Stevens knows how to host a Christmas concert. Last year, he did a Christmas tour titled "Surfjohn Stevens Christmas Sing-A-Long: Seasonal Affective Disorder Yuletide Disaster Pageant on Ice", and I went! It was wonderful and festive. Sufjan and his band were all dressed up (which, I should mention, they do anyway, for non-Christmas tours) and there was a wheel of Christmas. A WHOLE WHEEL OF CHRISTMAS! He called people up on stage to spin it and pick a song, then we all sang along.

Sufjan's version Holy, Holy, Holy is so wonderful and simple, yet his musical talent is so very apparent, and he adds his own flare to it. I love Sufjan because he makes and performs the music he wants to, the way he wants to. So maybe one minute you're singing Holy, Holy, Holy, and the next, Have a Holly Jolly Christmas. You get the best of both worlds with Soofy (which is what I call him).

Have a very Merry Christmas, and may the Christmas Unicorn bless you!
