AWARDS COVERAGE

New York's Independent Feature Project's Gotham Awards were held last night at Cipriani Wall Street and were met with much acclaim for the Coen brothers' Inside Llewyn Davis and a little controversy in director Lee Daniels' remarks while presenting a tribute to The Butler star Forest Whitaker (including a moment telling the crowd to "shut the f*** up").

Oscar frontrunner 12 Years a Slave started the night with the most nominations, but it was outshone by Inside Llewyn Davis in the Best Picture category, giving the indie music pic a push in the awards season. For the first year ever Best Actor and Best Actress prizes were awarded. Matthew McConaughey and Brie Larson won the inaugural awards for Dallas Buyers Club and Short Term 12, respectively.
