nominees//2014 DIRECTORS GUILD AWARDS

AWARDS COVERAGE

The Directors Guild of America announced their film award nominations today. The nominees in the group's TV and commercial categories will be announced later this week and documentary nominees next Monday.

Among the group of directing teams nominated, the Oscar "frontrunners" were present. Gravity's Alfonso Cuaron and 12 Years a Slave's Steve McQueen seem to be destined for Oscar nods at this point. The Wolf of Wall Street's Martin Scorsese received his 11th nomination from the group (he won the prize for his The Departed back in 2007).

Winners will be announced January 25 at the Hyatt Regency Century Plaza in Los Angeles. It's important to note that more times than not the five DGA nominees turn out to be very close to the five Oscar nominees. This doesn't bode too well for Her's Spike Jonze.
