thoughts//BEST FILM SOUNDTRACKS OF 2014 (SO FAR)

TOP TEN

The year is only halfway over and the fall movie season is the guaranteed best time to catch a quality film. But, as happens each year, some of the best movie moments occur in films that venture to debut in the first half of the year. And, if we're lucky, the best moments of each film are met with great musical moments. There's a lot of pressure on the person lucky enough to find the right song to set the right mood for the right moment.

2014 has presented itself as an interesting year for cinema, especially on the smaller, specialty circuit. The "big" movies of the year have been underdogs like The Fault in Our Stars and Guardians of the Galaxy that surpisingly blew up the box office and the low-budgeted The Grand Budapest Hotel and Boyhood. There's something special in a movie that isn't necessarily meant to be just a spectacle (imagine that!) and the soundtracks that have lit up the Billboard charts prove that.

Here are the best collections of music from films this year (so far). Whether it's instrumental or a smorgasbord of musical classics, we can only hope the rest of the year is met with more great moments and sounds!
