news//41st Atlanta Film Festival Lineup Announced


Over 6,000 films, from more than 120 countries, were submitted for the 41st Atlanta Film Festival, set to take place March 24, 2017 to Sunday, April 2, 2017.

The annual film fest features over 150 industry-related events, including creative conference workshops/panels, special presentations, marquee screenings, and notable filmmaker and special guest appearances.

In 2016, the fest was home to screenings of critically-acclaimed films like Everybody Wants Some!!, Morris from America, and Love and Friendship. Notable guests from recent years include James Gunn, James Franco, Josh Brolin, and Spike Lee.

As one of only two dozen Academy Award-qualifying festivals in the US (for narrative, animated, and documentary short competitions), the Atlanta Film Festival is a highlight of the film community each and every year.

2017's fest will screen 163 films and/or creative media over its 10 days, including 40 projects with ties to Georgia (filmmakers or production). 53% of films selected are directed by female filmmakers. 40% of films selected are directed by filmmaker(s) of color.

In a press release, Christopher Escobar, ATLFF Executive Director, said, "Coming off a record-setting 40th Anniversary event in 2016, we are entering our fifth decade with programming that represents our long-term commitment to celebrate filmmakers and audiences of all backgrounds. We are especially proud to be a festival that highlights diverse voices, while also emphasizing the important role that our city plays in the film and television community by holding our events at places unique to Atlanta."

Festival passes are now on sale at Individual screening tickets will become available March 25, 2017. Venues include The Plaza Theatre, Seven Stages, Rialto Theatre, Dad's Garage Theatre, Avondale Towne Cinema, and Serenbe.

The Atlanta Film Festival is the annual centerpiece of educational and enriching film programming that is provided year-round by parent organization, the Atlanta Film Society.
