AWARDS COVERAGE



Stephen Speilberg's The Post earned top prizes from the National Board of Review, including Best Film, Actor (Tom Hanks), and Actress (Meryl Streep).

The win for Streep marked her first prize from NBR since Sophie's Choice.

The National Board of Review is the oldest organization that awards annual film recognitions. mThe  group is made up of film enthusiasts, professionals, academics, young filmmakers, and students.

Spielberg's Pentagon Papers drama opens in limited release at the end of December,but received its first screenings over the past week. The film is expected to be an awards season juggernaut, with Streep potentially receiving her fourth Academy Award win.

Other films to earns prizes include Paul Thomas Anderson's Phantom Thread, which won the original screenplay award. Gotham Awards winner Call Me By Your Name earned Breakthrough Actor for Timothee Chalamet and was included in the Top Ten Films list.

All honorees will be celebrated at a ceremony on January 9, 2018, at Cipriani 42nd Street in New York. NBC News' Willie Geist will return as the host.
