News // THE 76TH VENICE FILM FESTIVAL TO FEATURE BIG STUDIO FILMS

Joker and Ad Astra will see their world premieres in Venice.

The 76th Venice Film Festival will take place August 29 to September 7, featuring many of the year's most-anticipated titles. The news of the lineup follows that of Toronto's announcement.

Film festival season is a lucrative circuit of awards season, with titles that appear in Venice, Toronto, or Telluride almost guaranteed spots in the awards conversation throughout the rest of the year.

This year's Venice fest will open with the world premiere of Hirokazu Kore-eda's The Truth, starring Juliette Binoche, Catherine Deneuve, and Ethan Hawke. This marks Kore-eda's first film since winning the Palme d'Or in 2018 for Shoplifters.

The fest will close with The Burnt Orange Heresy from Giuseppe Capotondi, starring Claes Bang, Elizabeth Debicki, and Mick Jagger.

Argentinian director Lucrecia Martel will serve as the competition jury's president.
