News // THE ACADEMY ELECTS NEW BOARD MEMBERS & SETS 2022 DATES

The Academy has been busy as it sets its sights on the next awards season.

The 2019-20 Board of Governors has been elected, according to the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. The newly elected and reelected members will assume their posts on July 1, 2019.

With the newly elected members, the number of female Academy governors increases to 24 from 22. Members of color increase from 110 to 11.

Three governors make up each branch of the Board of Governors. Each are eligible to serve up to three consecutive three-year terms.

Though the ceremony for 2020 had set the Academy's new strategy of hosting the ceremony earlier in the season, the dates for the 2022 Olympics, the Super Bowl, and national holidays will require the 2021 and 2022 dates to be on the last Sunday in February.
