One of our remaining modern movie stars, Tom Hanks, has been announced as the upcoming recipient of the Cecil B. deMille Award, the 'lifetime achievement' award given by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association.
The award, which will be feted during the 77th Golden Globe Awards in January, represents members of the film industry who have left an illustrious mark. Past recipients include Steven Spielberg, Sophia Loren, Sidney Poitier, Oprah Winfrey, Meryl Streep, Martin Scorsese, and Denzel Washington.
In a statement, HFPA president Lorenzo Soria said, "The Hollywood Foreign Press Association is proud to bestow the 2020 Cecil B. deMille Award to Tom Hanks. For more than three decades, he's captivated audiences with rich and playful characters that we've grown to love and admire. As compelling as he is on the silver screen, he's equally so behind the camera as a writer, producer, and director."
Hanks has received fifteen Golden Globe nominations throughout his career.
The 77th Golden Globes air live from the Beverly Hilton on January 5, 2020.
