News // 'TOY STORY 4' REPEATS AS THE WEEKEND CHAMP

Annabelle Comes Home opens decently.

The weekend's newest films were unable to unseat Toy Story 4 (#1), as the Pixar/Disney film easily crossed the $200 million mark, domestically.

Dropping 50.6%, Toy Story 4's $59.7 million weekend haul will allow it to maintain its status as one of the year's best-performing films. Disney has a few of those in its pocket this year, with Avengers: Endgame (#7) sitting at the top. That film revisited a wide release, bringing in an additional $6.6 million (up 207.3%) as the studio tries to beat out Avatar's box office reign.

WB's Annabelle Comes Home (#2) fared the best of the newcomers this week, pulling $20.2 million on over 3,600 screens. The horror flick entered the weekend with mixed reviews. It follows 2017's Annabelle Creation (which earned $102 million throughout its run) and 2014's Annabelle (which topped out at $84 million).

Yesterday (#3), the latest in a string of musicals based on the music of beloved rock stars, came in under expectations with just $17 million. Featuring the music of The Beatles, the film from Danny Boyle, failed to earn much respect from critics and audiences seemed to follow suit.

Disney's Aladdin (#4) continues to stick around the Top Five, a spot it should stay until this weekend's newest crop of films shake things up. The live-action reboot of the classic animated film has earned a whopping $306 million, domestically.

Limited release films bubbled under without much of a impact on the weekend totals. The best-performing title was The Other Side of Heaven 2: Fire of Faith (#19), which earned $454,257 from 205 screens.

Leaving the Top Ten this week are disappointing summer titles like Godzilla: King of the Monsters (#11) and Dark Phoenix (#12), plus the box office bomb Anna (#13).

Next weekend, Spider-Man: Far from Home and Midsommar are earning some big summertime buzz. The two films will compete for the American July 4th holiday weekend.
