The 72nd Cannes Film Festival takes place in May 2019.
Today, the team behind the Cannes Film Festival, arguably the most enticing annual festival in all of world cinema, has announced the key dates for the 72nd Festival de Cannes.
The festival returns on May 14, 2019, running until May 25, 2019. The fest's jury members and jury president will not be announced until closer to the festival's dates in 2019.
The news comes on the heels of an exciting 71st festival, which concluded in May. Cate Blanchett served as the fest's jury president, naming Japan's Shoplifters, directed by Hirokazu Kore-eda, as the winner of the Palme d'Or.
The Cannes Film Festival celebrates films from directors all over the world, often serving as a first-look festival for possible contenders for the next year's Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film, as well as the first stage for intriguing independent and prestige films. In previous years, movies like American Honey and The Umbrellas of Cherbourg received their first screenings at the fest.
Marty is the only film to have won the coveted Palme d'Or prize and the Academy Award for Best Picture.
