Disney/Pixar's long-awaited sequel netted a massive $180 million opening.

The record books have been busily updated this year, with smashing opening by films like Avengers: Infinity War and Deadpool 2 earning 'best-of' titles in terms of box office success.

Now, just weeks after the dismal opening of Solo: A Star Wars Story, Disney has a huge hit on its hands with Incredibles 2, the action-packed sequel to 2004 animated favorite. Its $180 million opening is enough to net it the record for largest grossing opening for an animated film of all time, plus a spot in the top ten openings of all time for any film.

Finding Dory held the previous record for an animated film, debiting with $135 million in 2016. Incredibles 2 now sits as the eight largest opening of all=time, just ahead of Captain America: Civil War's $179.1 million from 2016. Disney now has nine of the top ten openings of all time, with Jurassic World standing at spot number four.

Last weekend's victor, Ocean's 8, dropped 53% with $19.5 million. It now sits just under $80 million total, meaning it'll definitely make it across the $100 million line shortly.

As for new releases alongside Incredibles 2, Warner Bros.' Tag opened in third place with $14.6 million. Sony's Superfly reboot debuted in seventh place with $6.3 million.

Holdovers in the top ten include Hereditary, A24's critically-acclaimed horror flick. It earned $7 million in its second weekend. Deadpool 2 continued to churn out audiences, with $8.8 million being added to its impressive cume.

Disney also pushed new screenings of A Wrinkle in Time, enough so that the film, directed by Ava DuVernay, has now crossed the $100 million mark total.

Gotti, the biopic starring John Travolta, met poor reviews upon its release, fresh off of its screenings at Cannes. The film currently has a 0% on Rotten Tomatoes and pulled in just $1.67 million, despite opening in over 500 screens.

Next weekend, Disney gets a major competitor in Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom. The Universal release is expected to be one of summer's highest-earners. It will open in over 4,400 locations.
