Ron Howard's Star Wars spinoff following a young Han Solo will become the third Star Wars film to screen at the world famous fest.
Alden Ehrenreich stars as Solo, with a supporting cast including Woody Harrelson, Emilia Clarke, Donald Glover, Thandie Newton, and Paul Bettany. The film was written by Lawrence Kasdan and Jonathan Kasdan.
The film will screen in the Grand Amphitheatre Lumiere at the Palais des Festivals and will undoubtedly be the hottest ticket at the fest. The special showing marks the initial screening of the film that's undergone director changes and must live up to the hype, especially after the mixed reaction to Star Wars: The Last Jedi.
Solo: A Star Wars Story is the second film announced as screening in Cannes. Asghar Farhadi's Everybody Knows, starring Penelope Cruz and Javier Bardem, will open the festival.
The Cannes Film Festival runs May 8 to May 19, 2018.
The full list of film showing In Competition and Out of Competition will be released on April 12, 2018.
