UPDATED: August 14, 2018

Festival season is right around the corner, with Venice, Toronto, and Telluride preparing to roll out the red carpets. As the dates get closer, each festival will make the official lineup announcements, which in recent years has kickstarted the official buzz for certain films' awards season chances.

The Toronto International Film Festival has quickly become one of the festival season's most notable destinations for films, with past Best Picture winners earning their first screenings at the Canadian fest. The festival is notable for being one of the world's largest public festivals, with tickets available to the general public, as well as industry insiders and the press. The festival's major award, the People's Choice Award, serves as a proxy Best Picture prize. Past recipients include The Big Chill, The Princess Bride, Precious, and La La Land; plus, Oscar Best Picture winners Chariots of Fire, American Beauty, and Slumdog Millionaire.

The 2018 festival lineup is setting up to become one of the flashiest in the festival's history. Highly anticipated films makeup the meat of the lineup, including A Star is Born, First Man, and Widows. Other notable screenings include Beautiful Boy, The Front Runner, and Old Man & the Gun, a film being promoted as Robert Redford's official retirement from acting.

Over 7,000 films were screened by the festival's programmers. The list announced today is not the final list, as programmers will continue to add more gala screenings and special presentations.

As more films are announced, the titles will be added to this list. Interested in attending? Click here.
