The Art Directors Guild has weighed in with its feature film and television nominees, boding well for films like Arrival and not so well for films like Silence, Martin Scorsese's period epic that has quickly gotten lost in award season.
Due to a tie, there are six nominees in the Period Film category, definitely a heavy category of films this year, which could explain the absence of Silence. A lot of competition quickly weeds out the lesser players.
Based on previous years, the ADG Awards are a great indicator of both the Production Design Oscar and the eventual Best Picture. The major frontrunner to not make the cut here is Moonlight.
The 21st Art Directors Guild Awards are set to take place Saturday, February 11, 2017 at the Ray Dolby Ballroom at Hollywood and Highland.
