Cynthia Erivo and Lakeith Stanfield are among nominees.
Each year, as part of the BAFTA ceremony, the EE BAFTA Rising Star Award is given to an industry up-and-comer. The nominees range from stealth film actors to tv-to-film crossovers.
The crop of nominees this year are Lakeith Stanfield, Cynthia Erivo, Letitia Wright, Barry Keoghan, and Jessie Buckley.
Stanfield made waves after appearing in a pivotal role in 2017's Get Out and 2018's Sorry to Bother You. On TV, Stanfield stars in FX's Atlanta, one of the most critically-acclaimed shows in recent years.
Erivo broke out first on Broadway, winning a Tony Award for The Color Purple. Since transitioning to film, Erivo stole scenes in both Bad Times at the El Royale and Widows.
Wright was one of the cast members to shine in the Marvel hit, Black Panther.
Keoghan has been a familiar face in recent years, showing up in Dunkirk, To Kill a Sacred Deer, and last year's critical hit American Animals.
Lastly, Buckley earned raves with Beastly.
Online voting will determine the winner of the EE BATA Rising Star Award. James McAvoy was the award's first recipient in 2006. Shia LaBeouf, Kristen Stewart, Tom Hardy, and Daniel Kaluuya have also picked up the award.
The nominees for the 72nd BAFTA Film Awards will be announced January 9, 2019.
