Predictions // 92nd ACADEMY AWARDS NOMINATIONS

The nominations will be announced on January 13th.

Last updated: January 11, 2020

It's been a few years since anyone could undoubtedly say that we were provided a spectacular year of film. Not only did the box office rise above any other year in history, thanks to blockbusters like Avengers: Endgame, but audiences joined in countless discussions about what film and cinema actually mean. Though the discourse never settled on the 'official' definition, the fact that so many were impassioned is a sign that the art of the movies is far from dead.

One thing that remains is just how extravagant the countless streaming services will be at the end of the awards season. More than ever, the largest voting bodies seem to be taking to studios like Netflix. The Irishman and Marriage Story should end the season with a number of Oscar nominations, if not wins. It's the traditional studio releases, though, that have the will to earn the top prizes.

Quentin Tarantino's love letter to 60s Hollywood is the current frontrunner and Parasite could become the first-ever film not in English to become the Best Picture.

Laura Dern could earn a career-inspired first Oscar and Jennifer Lopez is expected to earn her very first Academy Award nomination.

Honeyland could become the first-ever film to be nominated in both the Documentary and International Feature categories.

And, some are saying this could be the first year we see ten Best Picture nominees since the Academy changed its voting rules in 2011.

There's plenty more to celebrate with this awards season and it all truly begins once the nominations are announced this Monday, January 13, 2020.

The Oscars will be held Sunday, February 9, 2020.
