Predictions // 91st ACADEMY AWARDS

Updated: Feb 24, 2019

What's set to make it or break it in 2018? Here's the continuously growing and updating rundown of every project and performance that could possibly make it to the Oscars.

Updated: February 22, 2018

We've made it. Finally.

After an awards season for the history books, the 91st Academy Awards are upon us. The only major event left is the fun, beachside Spirit Awards the night before we finally find out if Green Book or Bohemian Rhapsody will surprise and take the win.

Roma has ridden the wave with the most consistent wins, marking a successful entry into the big leagues for Netflix. The black-and-white drama looks to become the first ever foreign language film to earn Best Picture. It's also expected to take home other prizes, including Director and Cinematography. The Academy clearly loves the film since even its unknown cast made it into the acting races.

Other Best Picture contenders should still earn a few wins here and there. Black Panther isn't going to win the top prize, but could walk away with the Costume and Production Design trophies. A Star is Born will win the Best Song award. Vice will take Makeup & Hairstyling, and possibly Best Actor, but that's become Rami Malek's to lose at this point.

Despite this being the most unpredictable season in recent memory, many predicted winners have been on the lists since the beginning, like Regina King for If Beale Street Could Talk. Her exclusion from the BAFTAs could mean Rachel Weisz could sneak in. In the supporting actor category, Richard E. Grant is starting to be rumored as the surprise win over Mahershala Ali, who's won many of the precursors.

Any way it plays out with the winners, the biggest win has been the Academy's changes towards recognizing the role of the awards in the grand scheme. Without a host, maybe the ceremony will come under the three hour mark and mean we'll never have to worry about losing categories to the commercials ever again.

The 91st Academy Awards air live this Sunday, February 24, 2019. For a closer look at the entire awards season, we've got you covered right here.

Predicted nominees are listed in order of expected winner to least-likely-to-win. Precursors nominations and wins are also listed.
