The 2018 SXSW Film Awards gave top prizes to Thunder Road, a drama about a police officer raising his young daughter and coping with his failed marriage and career, and People's Republic of Desire, a documentary about China's social media stars.
Thunder Road was written and directed by Jim Cummings and based on his 2016 short film.
Jim Gaffigan hosted the awards show, held at the Paramount Theatre in Austin.
Other films to receive special jury prizes included The New Romantic, Jinn, and This One's for the Ladies. Janet Pierson received a special mention celebrating her 10 years as the festival's head.
The film festival, just a small part of the overreaching SXSW festival in general, featured a first-time screening of Steven Spielberg's Ready Player One, plus screenings of Sundance favorites like Sorry To Bother You.
