Winners // 20th COSTUME DESIGNERS GUILD AWARDS

Though Paul Thomas Anderson's Phantom Thread is nominated for several Academy Awards, it's expected to only be triumphant in the costume category. If the winners of the Costume Designers Guild Awards are any indication, however, the drama could be in trouble.

Guillermo del Toro's The Shape of Water was the surprise recipient of the Excellence in Period Film category, generally seen as the clearest indicator of which film could go on to Oscar gold.

I, Tonya received the Contemporary Film award, beating out Oscar heavyweights Get Out, Lady Bird, and Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri.
