If you were still holding your breath on a change in La La Land's awards season prospects, now may be the time to release. The musical, directed by Damien Chazelle, received the Darryl F. Zanuck Award, the Producers Guild of America's equivalent to a Best Picture prize.
As for how a win from the PGA fits into the awards season conversation: 19 of the past 27 ceremonies have matched the eventual Oscar Best Picture winner. In fact, in the past 10 years, the PGA only diverted twice from picking the film that would go on to win the Academy's biggest honor.
This doesn't completely mean La La Land has it in the bag, but based on its record-breaking Golden Globe Awards wins and record tying haul of Academy Awards nominations, it will be the surprise of the night if Chazelle's Hollywood dream ballet of a film does not come out on top.
The 28th Producers Guild of America Awards were celebrated at a ceremony at the Beverly Hilton Hotel.
