Winners // 33rd AMERICAN SOCIETY OF CINEMATOGRAPHERS AWARDS

In the midst of the Oscars fiasco, Cold War has claimed an important precursor win.

As it matched by the Oscars' nominations, black-and-white masterpieces Roma and Cold War are set to be the photo-finish cinematography winners this awards season. The latter, shot by Lukasz Zal, picked up the top honor from the American Society of Cinematographers.

First Man, A Star is Born, and The Favourite were also nominated.

The 33rd ASC Awards come on the heels of the Academy's decision to shift four categories to the commercial breaks to save time for the awards broadcast. Cinematography is listed as one of the proposed awards categories. Prior to the ceremony, which also celebrated the ASC's 100th anniversary, a letter from the society was sent to the Academy asking for a retraction of the new Oscar ceremony plan.
