Winners // 33rd FILM INDEPENDENT SPIRIT AWAR

As the last major awards ceremony before the Oscars, the 33rd Film Independent Spirit Awards honor the best in independent film. Traditionally, the ceremony is held in Santa Monica the evening before Hollywood's biggest night and gives some kudos to films and performances that may repeat victories the next night.

In the past few years, the Spirit Awards have become one of the heartiest hints at where the Academy Awards could go, as the Best Picture prizes have matched in years past, including last year's win for Moonlight.

Jordan Peele's Get Out won the Best Feature prize, winning over fellow Oscar nominees Call Me By Your Name and Lady Bird. If you're still figuring out which film to mark on your ballot, Get Out could be a good choice.

The flick also took home the award for Peele as Best Director.
