Vice and Mary Queen of Scots earn important guild wins.
The Make-Up and Hair Stylists Guild handed out its annual awards in over 20 categories that celebrate the craft in film and television. Two of the three Oscar nominees, Mary Queen of Scots and Vice, earned wins in their respective categories. Vice is expected to win the Oscar.
A Star is Born won its first and only guild award.
On the television side, The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel earned the top award.
Melissa McCarthy was feted at the ceremony, held at L.A. Live's Novo Theater, with the Distinguished Artisan Award. The award celebrated her career and range of characters. It marked the first time a female artist received the award.
Other special honors went to Sue Cabral-Ebert (Lifetime Achievement Award, Make-Up) and Robert Louis Stevenson (Lifetime Achievement Award, Hair Styling).
The awards came just on the heels of the Academy's reversal of its plans to award four categories off-air, during commercial breaks. The Makeup and Hair category was one of the four chosen. It will now be handed out during the live broadcast.
